Deep Water Cay Closes

The first and oldest bonefishing lodge in the Bahamas is a casualty of Dorian. Deep Water Cay is ceasing operations.

Here’s the story.

I got to visit DWC a few years back and can attest to how nice the place was. The facilities and the guides and the boats were all top notch. Such a lot of history has come through that little island on the East End.

  1. Wow! “…made staff redundant..” is that the new word for being “laid off?” How calculated and crappy that sounds. However, it sounds like they are looking out for the staff with a share of $500K and promise of stateside temp lodging. $44 Mill is a heck of a lot of money to fill with the ROI! It seems a shame that a measly $1 mill to clean up is chump change and the insurance to rebuild should cover the rest. Sounds like they just wanted out! Nevertheless, it’s a famous fishing lodge with lots of great angling history and generations of Bahamians finding good paying work and setting the standard for angling lodges worldwide.

  2. I think that’s just how they say it in the Bahamas. It’s a British thing.
