Direct Flights to the Bahamas

When your bonefishing tastes start to get beyond Nassau or Grand Bahama, you start to lose direct flight options really quickly.   No one would really expect you to get a direct flight to Crooked, but how about Andros?  Well, you can get a charter to Andros, but not regular service.  If you are looking for scheduled flights, you have four Bahamian options to choose from beyond Nassau or Grand Bahama… Abaco,  Exuma, Eleuthera and Andros.

Air Sunshine – No More Bahamas Flights

On the Bahamas.com website you’ll see Air Sunshine listed as making direct flights to the out islands of the Bahamas.  This is no longer the case as Air Sunshine no longer flies to the Bahamas at all.

Abaco

Turns out there are a lot of carriers flying to Abaco.  American, Continental Connections, BahamasAir (almost all their flights go through Nassau, but they do fly direct from West Palm Beach to Marsh Harbor), Delta (looks like a Wed. and Sun. flight DIRECT FROM ATLANTA, $485), Twin Air Calypso, Air Gate, and Cherokee Air.  Now, some of these outfits are charter based as opposed to having regularly scheduled routes.   The Bahamas.com website makes it look like there are regular flights, but if so, the carrier are doing a fine job of hiding those routes on their websites.

Exuma

Tus out there are all sorts of flights direct to Exuma. You can get there direct from Toronto, Atlanta, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale,    Watermakers Air is listed at the Bahamas.com website as making direct flights. Watermakers Air is a charter service and they say they can also fly direct to Andros… which is good to keep in mind.

Andros

It is possible to get to Andros direct through 4 weekly flights from Ft. Lauderdale.  Hank’s Place has a list of travel options (Hank’s is still for sale, by the way).

Eleuthera

You can also get to Eleuthera direct. Again, Southern Florida is your gateway and Continental can get you there.  Check out the Discover Eleuthera Bahamas website for more thoughts on travel.
