A poll about subscriptions

I have something like 261 people who have signed up to be subscribers. At this point that is supposed to mean you get a notification of each new post. Since I post pretty much daily, it is a little redundant, especially if you follow the Facebook page, since I post each new post there as well. The bummer is that notices don’t seem to be sending with any predictability at this point. Sometimes they go, sometimes they don’t and I have really now way of predicting when, or even if, such notices will make their way out to you, my loyal (ya know, for the most part) readers.

So… I wonder about what should be done with subscriptions. If I should just try to find another tool for the same end or if I should look to do something different.

Let me know what you’d like to see happen.

Thanks.

  1. Hey Bjorn, I have BOTB on RSS through Google Reader, but often click through from your FB posts.

I have no complaints either way, and I don’t miss too much, even if it’s a few days later than originally posted.

  2. It is an odd thing. It worked flawlessly for so long and then, not so much. I think people think I’ve taken them off the mailing list when it is just that the mailing list has stopped working.

I’m choosing to see it as an opportunity.

  3. I do like the idea of weekly summaries, á la Deneki & Midcurrent. They’re nice to find in the inbox & don’t clutter too much.

  4. Needed another vote option: “Just leave me alone. When I want to see what you’ve posted, I’ll check. If the content continues to enlighten or entertain me, I’ll be back. If it doesn’t, I’ll leave.” In summary, I’ve never gotten an announcement about a new posting and I’m very thankful for that. Please don’t start sending me one. Thanks and Happy New Year.

  5. I am one of those that is missing his morning post. Even if sometimes I just ran thru it quickly it was much appreciated. I have been using the Facebook posts to pick up the slack but it is not quite the same. Thanks for all your work.

  6. Doug, that is easy enough… just don’t subscribe! Bam! Done. There is action required to subscribe and so people expect something to happen when they put in their email info. Trying to make that happen.

  7. Kewl! I guess I never subscribed, huh?

  8. Nope. That will be $5 for your convenience.

I generally take a peek every day or two…always delete the e-mail as I am going to look when I can….you could remove me from the e-mails or I can continue to delete them….I have a few sites I check frequently and this is one of them.
