I’ve been playing around at the vice a bit and maybe there is already a name for this style of fly but since I don’t know it, I’ll just call it a Reversed Gotcha. Basically, this means putting the eyes toward the back of the fly. In truth, I have a hard time staying that focused at the vice. I find myself tying one this way, one that, one a third way. If I sit down to tie a half dozen flies, I end up with six flies that are all unique. Tying is fun though, so I won’t beat myself up for that.
I’ve also been putting a strip of Clear Cure Goo or Rio Knot Sense on the top and bottom of the fly and I really like the way it looks.
Here are some of the recent ties.
I’ll bet these will catch fish, but I understand a great number of flies will catch fish out there. I look forward to throwing some of these flies at those Androsian fish. Catching a fish on a fly you’ve tied is a great feeling… one I hope to experience over and over and over again.

I see lots of orange accents on the your flies. That will increase your hook up rates…orange is an excellent trigger in on the West and “Soudhh” side of Andros. Enjoy!
?Add a rattle tube on the bottom where it won’t affect the hook gap using clear mono thread??
Cheers. I do like some orange in there… I find it as a color I reach for a lot, more so on instinct than experience, so I hope I’m right on that.
Hmmm… never used a rattle tube before… another thing to run to the fly shop for…
Very sexy ties, bro.
I hear ya on the “one this way… one that way” Hard to do 6-8 flies exactly the same. So many materials, so many combos!
I use the CCG/Epoxy idea on some flies, but it can contribute to the ‘plop’ effect – which I usually try to avoid in uber-shallow waters.
They just LOOK so good… at least to me. I sat down last night and tied some basic gotcha’s to fill the box with other options and managed to get 2 patterns with 4 copies each before I ran out of hooks that size. Just put an order in for more supplies and am pretty much dead in the water until that comes in.
I hope they fish as good as they look!
I just returned from an eight day trek to Andros orange accent is a killer. Do not worry about the plop with the Clear Cure Goo,its almost always windy. When its not blowing reach for the lighter flies. Many of the bonefish feed on little critters that are nothing but “jelly” with eyes. I fished extensively with similar offerings.

CAN’T WAIT!
I recommend tying some of these blind (no eyes) for the really skinny water. I found that anything with any extra weight at all was too much for the really skinny water situations.
I have some unweighted flies already, but oddly enough, I just tied up one of these with no weight yesterday. I have yet to catch a bone on a fly without eyes of some kind, but Andros should provide a few opportunities along those lines.
