Bimini Courtesy of ESPN Outdoors

Here is a little story about a trip to Bimini by Kyle Rimkus for ESPN.  This is a mixed bag of bait and flies and the guide has one of those famous bonefish names, Rolle.  If it seems like all the guides in the Bahamas are related, that’s because they probably are.  Only just over 200,000 people call the Bahamas home.

Fred Rolle by Carter Simcoe

Fred isn’t cheap… $600 for a full day.

Bimini is the closest of the Bahamian Islands to the US… only 50 miles.   You could practically swim there.

Big Hole Trout and a Big Ole' Bone

The Big Hole Trout blog has had a series of bonefish stories from Andros.  This post is about a 15 pounder that didn’t quite make it to the boat.

Imagine a bonefish as big as this burger.

The BigholeTrout blog is put out by Great Divide Outfitters.

Arg… Rebroadcasts of Pirates

Pirates of the Flats has been a joy.  I was a little surprised on one occasion to have tennis show up on my DVR instead of bonefishing.  I really don’t like watching tennis… even the ladies in the tiny skirts… just not my thing.  I understand that ESPN has to do what they have to do, just wish they (whoever the “they” is in this situation) could get the tags right.

If you missed an episode or two, or had tennis screw up your plans, there’s a rebroadcasting schedule for Pirates of the Flats on the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust website.

So good, you should watch it twice.

Skate the Fly, Coach Duff, Hawaiian Bones

Found a new blog called “Skate the Fly.” One of the stories there was about fishing with Coach Duff in Hawaii, pursuing those monster bones.

These fish are big, by any standard you could say huge.  In a world where Hawaiians harvest anything that moves, they didn’t get this way by accident.

Check out the whole story here.

Kalua Pig from Coach Duff

Another massive bone caught with Coach Duff in Hawaii.  This time, the lucky angler was Richard from Seattle.  Not only  did Richard escape the gray and dreary North West in January, he stuck a 10.8 pound bonefish while in beautiful Hawaii.

Nice…

Just so you know… you can buy a clouser from… ya know… Bob Clouser.  Bet they are well tied.

The trip in this little vid is a Yellow Dog Fly Fishing Adventures trip.  Runs about $5K.

Soulfish

Soulfish isn’t all bonefish, but it not only has a few, but it also has a few of my favorite fishing folks in it.  The guy behind the camera (and sometime in front of it) is Mikey Wier.  Mikey guides, produces videos and is a Patagonia Fly Fishing Ambassador (see his favorite gear here).  I’ve been lucky enough to fish with Mikey a couple of times up here on the Little Truckee and the East Walker.  He’s a passionate conservationist in addition to being one  hell of an angler.

One of the featured anglers in Soulfish is Rachel Andras.  I met Rachel when she was working in Redding and she will likely be the #1 role model I’ll point to when my daughter gets old enough to start asking if girls fish too.

You can buy  Soulfish here.

On a side note, Happy Birthday to my little girl, who turns three today.
