OK… thanks to Fishpond for sending me a Low Tide Lumbar pack for my upcoming Hawaii Trip. I’ve long been a fan of their gear, so it was great to test drive this latest version of their lumbar pack (I’m not calling it a fanny pack). I have the earlier generation and it has put a lot of miles in with me.
So, first the important stuff. This pack fits two of my big fly boxes. That is essential. If they don’t fit, it won’t be a useful pack to me. This pack fits. So… we are off to a good start.
Another REALLY cool thing was that looking at the tag on the pack I saw that it was very short on the normal marketing drivel and it was instead a place to help spread word on a really important issue… the slaughter of sharks in our oceans.
I say… well played Fishpond… very well played. Check out Protect Sharks.

The shark thing is excellent. Now, back to the important stuff. What makes this pack better than others? Have they used water. Proof fabric and zipper (at least in the main compartment)? Wonder why they don’t send me stuff – I own at least one of almost everything they produce. The w/p thing became a serious issue for me after my second trip to Christmas ….. It rained for a week and I had two lumbar packs with me including one from FP. Neither kept my stuff dry. Have fixed that now but had to go to another manufacturer. Too bad – I like FP.
Is it waterproof with waterproof zippers?
No on the waterproof front, but for me, that’s never been my issue. I don’t really need it to be waterproof. That is a nice feature, I suppose, but the added cost tweaks me.
How the pack works on the water… well, I’ll let you know! Trip to Hawaii is now just a couple weeks away.
